GULFPORT — Gulfport senior standout Morris Robertson, Jr., gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” this week.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

Robertson, who was recently selected to represent his home state in the prestigious Alabama/Mississippi All-Star Basketball Classic coming up in March, showed exactly why he’s one of the best players in the senior class in the state this season earlier this week as his Admirals moved to an impressive 20-1 overall with a pair of wins in a 24 hour span.

On Monday, Gulfport faced perennial state power Meridian in the Wilson Terrell MLK Day Classic at Laurel High School. And, for the second consecutive time, the Admirals escaped with a win over the Wildcats.

Meridian led by as much as eight points in the third quarter, but the Admirals stayed within striking distance as Robertson drained four treys on the afternoon and finished with a team-high 22 points. For his play, Robertson earned Most Outstanding Player honors for the game.

Then, the next day, the Admirals sailed home to face Harrison Central in the resumption of Region 4-7A play and Gulfport thumped the Red Rebels 77-32.

Robertson again guided Gulfport to the win, as he tallied a game-high 25 points in the win.
