WIGGINS— Resurrection senior standout Gian Vera is the “Southern Six Spotlight” sponsored by Burnham Drugs this week.

Each week of the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports along with Burnham Drugs will highlight a deserving student/athlete in the “Southern Six”.

Resurrection stands a solid 16-4 so far this season, and had a big week with two key wins at home thanks in large part to Vera.

Thursday night, the Eagles took complete control from the opening tip off and rolled to a 71-35 thumping of Richton in an important Region 8-1A clash. The Eagles jumped ahead by as many as 25 points in the first half and never looked back, as Vera got the Eagles off to a quick start with eight first quarter points as the home team took a 20-11 lead entering the second stanza.

Vera was an offensive catalyst all night for RCS, as he poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the way to the win.

Resurrection started the week off with a Monday afternoon matinee affair and dismantled visiting Bayshore Christian Academy of Fairhope (Ala.) 66-37.

RCS got out to an 18-3 lead after one quarter, as Vera and Keyshawn Nesbitt scored five points apiece in the period, and Vera’s total included a 3-pointer.

Vera went on to add three more treys, and tally a game-high 22 points to lead RCS to the win.
