GULFPORT — Entering Friday’s Region 4-7A rematch with visiting Ocean Springs, second-year Gulfport boys basketball head coach Brian Butler was a nifty 19-1 in league games.
And, ironically enough, that lone loss came at the hands of the Greyhounds just a few weeks back.
However, the latest meeting was a different story for Butler and his Admirals.

Gulfport dispatched OSHS 64-50 in the return match, to move to an impressive 22-1 overall and 8-1 in the loop. The defending region champ Admirals maintained their lead in the league standings, one full game ahead of arch-rival Biloxi, with those Indians set to pay a visit here to Bert Jenkins Gym on Tuesday night.
Admiral senior standout Morris Robertson, who has been on a roll of late, continued to elevate his play as he posted a double-double dropping in a game-high 26 points and also pulling down 10 rebounds in the winning effort. His partner in the paint Travor Frost chipped in a 19-point and seven board performance for the Admirals, and Jeffrey Isabell dished out five assists to guide Gulfport in that category.

The Greyhounds got 14 points out of Christian Cowan in the loss, while Jeremie Packer added 10 points and both Chase Spring and Jacolby Bailey tossed in nine points apiece for OSHS.
The Greyhounds fall to and 13-9 overall and 5-4 in the loop.
Ocean Springs beat GHS 68-62 in the first meeting. In that one, Cowan and Jayvon Williams combined for 38 points for the Greyhounds. This time out, that duo was limited to just 17 points total.

There are still two weeks of action left for the seven teams that comprise Region 4-7A. And since that number of league members has increased by one since last season, that means only the top seed entering the upcoming league tournament gets an opening round bye and will secure a spot in the Class 7A South State playoffs even before the region tourney tips off.
Heading into this week, Gulfport tops the region race followed by Biloxi, OSHS and West Harrison which sits at 4-4 in the region race.
