Prep Basketball: Red Rebelettes whack West Harrison in Region 4-7A rematch

LYMAN — Just like the first meeting, the rematch went to the home team.

Home-standing Harrison Central whacked West Harrison in a key Region 4-7A girls prep basketball match-up Friday night 56-36. The battle for second place in the region race moved the Red Reblettes to a solid 22-3 overall as well as 8-2 in league play with a week left in the regular season. The win also sets up an even bigger showdown in the region race Tuesday night, when Harrison Central will head to Biloxi for a meeting with the league-leading Lady Indians.

West Harrison, meanwhile, fell to 20-3 overall and 7-3 in league action and has secured the third seed in the upcoming region tournament. The Lady Hurricanes won the first game against HCHS two weeks ago 36-35 in exciting fashion.

The Red Rebelettes got seven points in the opening period, including a 3-pointer, from Parklynn Floyd to get them off to a quick start and take a 12-5 lead entering the second stanza.

However, West Harrion got six points from Michelle Jackson in the next period to help her Lady ‘Canes draw within 21-18 at halftime.

Harrison Central went inside to Dandy Dozen junior standout Saniyah Murray in the third period, and she scored six points to make it 34-25 HCHS entering the final frame.

Floyd tallied 17 points down the stretc, including converting 11 of 13 free throw attempts in the fourth quarter, as HCHS sealed the win.

Floyd’s game-high 26 points paced the home team to the win, while Autumn Keeler chipped in 13 points to the winning effort and Murray added eight points.

Both Jackson and Sydnei Barber had nine points apiece to lead the lady ‘Canes, and Jazz’ya Craighead had eight points.

Biloxi has already clinched the top seed in the region heading into the league tourney next week, and with it also the only automatic berth into the Class 7A South State playoffs in the region, which is the only of the four regions in the largest classification in the state to have seven teams.

The three winners of opening round games will join the Lady Indians in the state playoffs.
