Prep Basketball: Warriors continue St. Martin’s slide with Region 4-7A win

ST. MARTIN — The month of January wasn’t very kind to the St. Martin boys basketball team.
And, on paper at least, February is likely to get off to the same type of start.
The Yellow Jackets dropped six of seven games in the first month of 2026, capped of by a sluggish 34-29 loss to visiting D’Iberville Friday night in Region 4-7A play.

The losses drop St. Martin under the .500 mark for the first time all season at 11-12 overall, and the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-7 in the region race heading into the final week of the regular season. St. Martin was 11-7 when the calendar flipped over to the new year.
D’Iberville started St. Martin’s recent slide with a 49-37 win at home of Jan. 6th. The season sweep of the Yellow Jackets moves the Warriors to 12-14 overall and 4-6 in league play. D’Iberville has a firm grasp on the fifth place seed for the upcoming region tournament next week, while SMHS is almost assuredly locked into the sixth spot.

After all, the Yellow Jackets host top-seed and defending region champ Gulfport Tuesday night. The Admirals come in a sparkling 23-1 overall and 9-1 in the region race.
D’Iberville got 11 points from Jaylan Johnson and 10 points from Landon Nicholls in the win Friday night. The Warriors travel to West Harrison Tuesday night.
St. Martin got 10 points apiece from both Markel Simmons and R.J. Keys in the loss.
