Prep Basketball: Greyhounds stay perfect against Hawks under Goley

By CURTIS ROCKWELL/Sports Director OCEAN SPRINGS — Before taking over as head coach at Ocean Springs, Greyhound head coach Collin Goley held the same post at Hancock High. However, since returning to OSHS, the former Greyhound standout basketball player is perfect as a head coach against his previous squad.

Goley’s Greyhounds stopped the visiting Hawks 52-42 Tuesday night, to move to 3-0 over the past three seasons against HHS in this all “Southern Six” match-up. Goley is in his third season at the helm of the Greyhounds, after serving three seasons also as the head coach of the Hawks. Ocean Springs is now 15-10 overall, while Hancock falls to 9-18.

The Greyhounds led just slightly, at 33-32, entering the fourth and final quarter, but OSHS got nine points from Jeremie Packer down the stretch in out-scoring HHS 19-10 in the final frame to seal the win. Packer tallied a team-high 17 points to guide the Greyhounds to the victory, while Jayvon Williams scored all 12 of his points in a solid second half to help out. Hawk versatile big man Jaxson Knight produced a game-high 20 point effort to pace the Hawks. Hancock hosts Biloxi Thursday night to close out the regular season, while OSHS heads up the road a piece to St. Martin Friday night in the regular season and Region 4-7A finale for both teams.
