PASCAGOULA — On the football field this year, the annual “Battle of the Cats” between Pascagoula and Moss Point was a mismatch won handily by the Panthers.
Ditto on the basketball court.
The home-standing Panthers completely destroyed their long-running rivals from the other side of Jefferson Street 68-16 Friday night to wrap up the regular season for both teams.

The win pushes Pascagoula to 21-6 on the season, and it extended the PHS win streak to 12 straight games and head coach Lorenzo Wright’s team hasn’t lost a game since the calendar flipped over to a new year.
The Tigers, on the other hand, fell to a disappointing 3-25 on the year.
In front of a packed house, Pascagoula jumped out to a commanding 55-9 lead at halftime and the game clock ran the entire second half.
After many, many years of facing one another several times each season in basketball, this was the fourth straight season that the two teams met just once to end the campaign.

Pascagoula won the football game over Moss Point 47-0 in late August.
Next up for Pascagoula is the Region 4-6A Tournament, which the Panthers will host starting Monday. Pascagoula, which went 10-o in region play this year, is the top seed and will begin its attempt to win its third straight league championship on Tuesday night.
Moss Point, meanwhile, returns home to host the Region 8-4A Tournament starting Monday also. The Tigers face Bay High with both the season and a state playoff berth on the line Monday night.
