D’IBERVILLE — The Harrison Central Lady Red Rebels took care of business early as junior Dandy Dozen Saniyah Murray proved to be too much of a challenge for the Lady Hurricanes. Murray dominated the paint on the offensive end, putting up 25 points to lead the Lady Red Rebels to a 59-39 win over West Harrison Wednesday night in the Region 4-7A Tournament semifnals.

Murray scored 7 points in the first period and added 10 more in the second quarter as the Lady Hurricanes had no answer to her play around the basket.

“She hit the boards extremely well tonight,” said Lady Red Rebels coach Sandra Rushing. “She was double and triple teamed. She had a great performance tonight. She’s a Dandy Dozen.

“Our guard play was very good,” said Rushing. “I’m so proud of this team. This is something we wanted to do, to play in a championship game.”

The Lady Red Rebels earned another chance to play Biloxi on Friday night in the 7A Region 4 final.

“We want another shot,” said Rushing. “Biloxi is a very good team, a very talented and well-coached team. This time we want to have a chance to get off the bus because we didn’t show up last time.”

In their last encounter, Biloxi dominated the Lady Red Rebels to the tune of a 52-19 one-sided game at Biloxi.

“This is a grilling week for everybody, playing back-to-back-to-back,” said West Harrison coach Patty Norwood. “We’re just happy to still be playing.”

In addition to Murray’s 25 points the Lady Red Rebels, Parklyn Floyd chipped in 11 points, and Krista Clarke scored 10 points.

Michelle Jackson led the Lady Hurricanes with 14 points followed by Sydnei Barber with 9 points.

The Lady Hurricanes will play Gulfport on Thursday for the third-place spot from the South 7A.
