Prep Basketball: Panthers pound PRC for 35th straight Region 4-6A win

PASCAGOULA — The Pascagoula boys basketball team has won 35 straight region games.
And, ironically enough, the Panthers celebrated that gaudy streak by winning their latest league contest by right around that many points as well.
Homed-standing and top-seed Pascagoula destroyed Pearl River Central 74-34 Tuesday night in the quarterfinal round of the Region 4-6A Tournament. The Panthers, of head coach Lorenzo Wright, haven’t lost a league game in three years, since Feb., 6th 2023.
Wright’s crew moved to a solid 23-6 with the win, and moves into their third straight Region 4-6A Tournament championship game where they will meet up-start Hancock at 7:30 p.m., Friday night.

Pascagoula Dandy Dozen senior standout and Jackson State signee Blake Nettles poured in a game-high 23 points in just three quarters of action to power the Panthers to the win. Will Rogers chipped in 18 points to the game-winning effort, while Ireyion Harvey added 10 points as nine different players got into the scoring column for PHS.

Terrell Wilkes scored 14 points to pace PRC, while both Titus Feaster and his older brother J.J. Feaster had eight points apiece.
PRC will face arch-rival Picayune in the consolation contest at 7:30 p.m., Thursday night. Hancock, the third seed, upset Picayune Tuesday night after the second-seeded Maroon Tide swept the Hawks in the regular season. Picayune also beat PRC twice this season.

By the way, Pascagoula has won 12 straight games over the Hawks, dating back 14 years to 2012, including six straight in region play over the last three seasons.

The Hawks, the third seed in this event, are playing in their first region title game in 15 years when current head coach Conner Entrekin was playing for Hancock.

Regardless of the outcome, both Pascagoula and Hancock will open the Class 6A South State playoffs next week at home.
