LAUREL — The Stone High boys basketball team plays for the Region 4-5A championship Friday night.
The Tomcats face powerful Wayne County at 8:30 here at Northeast Jones High School in the region tournament title contest. The game is the rubber match in the series this year between the two teams, after each won at home and they split the regular season series.




The Tomcats are 15-13 overall after nipping the host Tigers Tuesday night 52-51 in the semifinal round. Stone got 15 points and six rebounds freom senior standout Jabari Moyes, while Cleon Johnson chipped in 14 points to the balanced winning attack and Brody Farmer posted a double-double as he added 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kenneth Boggs had seven points.
Wayne County comes in at an impressive 24-1 overall on the season, with the only loss coming to the Tomcats 51-49 a couple of weeks back.
The War Eagles thumped Stone 70-39 in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Wayne County mashed Vancleave 71-38 Tuesday in the semifinal round. The War Eagles are the tourney’s top-seed while Stone is the second seed.
