Prep Basketball: Long live the Queen — Lady Hawks capture third consecutive Region 4-6A crown

PASCAGOULA — Long live the Queen. Since the first-ever expansion into seven classifications in the state of Mississippi three years ago, the Hancock girls basketball team has ruled over the ranks of Region 4-6 with complete domination. The Lady Hawks won their 36th straight region win Friday night, toppling Picayune 44-29 in the league tournament championship game here at Pascagoula High.

The win moves Hancock to 20-9 overall on the year, and it not only marks the third straight region chaampionship for the Lady Hawks, but it is also the third straight season that head coach Jamie Siswco’s squad has eclipsed the 20-win mark on the campaign as well. The Lady Maroon Tide fell to 14-15 overall with the loss. It marked the third loss for Picayune to Hancock this season, and the Lady Hawks now own a 10-game win streak over the Lady Tide dating back to 2018. No scoring details from the game were available.

Hancock placed Lexi Ladner, Caitlyn Ladner, Jaleigh Garriga and Lexi Dreher on the All-Region team, and Paityn Langley was named the Region 4-6A Most Valuable Player of the Year. For Picayune, junior standout Laikyn Moore was named the Offensive and Region Defensive Most Valuable Player while Rhyen Goss, Devin Adkins and Madilyn Plummer earned spots on the All-Region team. In addition, Picayune head coach Shayla Goss was named the Region 4-6A Coach of the Year. Both Hancock and Picayune will open the Class 6A South State playoffs at home Friday night.
