PASCAGOULA — The Pascagoula baseball team made it a clean sweep in the annual “Battle of the Cats” Friday.
One week after the boys basketball team and a little over five months after the PHS football did it, the Panthers took down arch-rival Moss Point on the diamond here at Tillma Field 5-2.
The win was the first of the new season for the Panthers after getting swept by East Central earlier in the week, as PHS enters week two of the new campaign at 1-2. Moss Point is also 1-2 after splitting with Richton earlier in the week.

Pascagoula jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after three innings, thanks to a run in the second inning and two more in the third.
Carlos Fernndez led off the bottom of the second with a double for PHS, and Aiden Perez followed immediately with an RBI-single to give the home team a lead it would never relinquish.
Owen Estroso’s two-run double in the next PHS at bat stretched that lead to 3-0.
The Tigers weren’t out of it just yet, however. Sophomore Willie Hurd belted a one-out, two-run double of his own in the top of the fourth frame to cut the deficit back to just one run at 3-2.
But, that would be as close as the visitors would get in this one.

Pascagoula versatile, multi-sport junior standout Sean Norvel delivered the biggest blow of the game as his two-run home run to left returned the advantage to three runs at 5-2 and not only ended the scoring but sealed the deal as well.
Both Norvel and Estroso bagged two hits apiece to pace PHS at the plate, and both drove in those two runs apiece as well.
Hurd and Orlando Esumuria each had a double apiece for the Tigers, and Hurd’s two RBIs led MPHS also.
Both teams only managed five hits apiece in the game.
Izayah Sims started and picked up the win for the Panthers on the hill, while Norvel split the time with him and earned a save.
Aiden Evans went the distance on the hill for the Tigers and took the loss.
Pascagoula heads to Harrison Tuesday night, while Moss Point faces Gautier Monday.
