MOSS POINT — It’s on to the second round of the Class 4A South State playoffs for the second straight season for the Moss Point girls basketball team.
The home-standing Lady Tigers mauled McComb 54-29 in the opening round of the playoffs Monday night here at Arthur Haynes Gymnasium. The win moves Moss Point to 18-13 overall on the season, and more importantly into the second round of the Class 4A South State playoffs later this week.

The Lady Tigers, who were coming off winning the Region 8-4A Tournament championship on their home floor late last week, continued that momentum right away against McComb as the home team got 10 quick points, including a pair of 3-pointers, from Trinity Magee, to take a double digit lead after the opening quarter at 14-4.
Moss Point steadily stretched its advantage out to 27-11 at halftime, as Zaria Nettles had five points in the second stanza and Kirsten Bailey added four points, including a trey of her own.
Magee then dashed any thoughts the visitors had of any second half comeback, as she dropped in 10 more points in the third frame and MPHS vaulted out to a 41-14 lead heading into the fourth period and never looked back.

Just for good measure, Magee added five more points down the stretch to end the night with a career and game-high 27 points and a trio of 3-pointers to led the way to the win. Nettles chipped in 11 points to the winning cause, and Bailey had seven points with Landyn Miller finishing with six points.
Moss Point will host Northeast Lauderdale Friday night with a trip to the Class 4A South State quarterfinals on the line.
McComb, the fourth seed from Region 5-4A, ends the season at 5-16.
