Prep Softball: Lady Greyhounds slip past Lady Rebels 2-1 Thursday night

OCEAN SPRINGS — Ocean Springs came into Thursday’s game with defending Class 6A state champ George County coming off two straight losses.
However, the Lady Greyhounds bounced back in fine fashion.
Ocean Springs nipped the Lady Rebels 2-1 in a big early season prep softball match-up in the “Southern Six”. Both teams sit at 2-2 overall after the decision.

Both teams managed just five hits apiece in the game, but the home team strung three extra base hits together in consecutive at bats in the third inning to produce all of the offense it would need to secure the win.
K’Lee Gum’s one-out double started the spurt, and she scored on Kerrigan Scott’s RBI-triple to left field that gave OSHS a 1-0 lead it would never relinquish.
Emma Franklin followed that with a run-scoring double to left that plated Scott to make it 2-0.
George County got an RBI-ground out from Braylee Bishop in the top of the sixth stanza for its only run of the game.

Jordyn Bradley had a game-high two hits for the Lady Rebels, while both Hadleigh Tatum and Aryana Dixon each had a double.
Franklin twirled a complete game five-hitter with six strike outs in the circle for the Lady Greyhounds to pick up the win.
Peyton Collins took the loss for GCHS.
Both teams jump right back into more action Friday night, as OSHS travels to Vancleave and George County heads to Poplarville to take on perennial state power South Panola at Pearl River Community College.
