It didn’t take former Vancleave High All-State standout Max Miller long to make a big statement on the pitching mound on the highest level of college baseball.
Miller settled in nicely in his second start of the season, and sat down 15 of the 19 hitters he saw in five full frames of work for the University of South Alabama over the weekend in a 3-1 road win over College of Charleston.
Miller picked up the win, and allowed just three hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out five in the solid performance. The decision helped the Jaguars secure the series win.

“He’s (Miller) is a competitor,” USA head coach Mark Calvi said. “He’s a heck of a pitcher, and you got to see some of that today.”
Miller solidified his spot as the number two weekend starter for Calvi’s crew. He is a transfer from Pearl River Community College after a stellar career in Poplarville.
After spending two uneventful seasons at Mississippi State coming out of Vancleave, Miller shone in his lone season as a Wildcat. He was used both out of the bullpen and as a starter, tossing 59 1/3 innings with a 2.12 earned run average, which was the 11th-best in PRCC single-season history. Had a perfect 7-0 record and five saves, and struck out 72 batters against 24 walks.

He was especially effective in the Juco World Series for PRCC, throwing eight innings in relief and allowing two earned runs as the Wildcats finished as national runner-up after PRCC won a Region 23 title.
He was considered one of Perfect Game’s Top 100 Juco recruits nationwide before casting his lot with South Alabama.
He is the son of former Vancleave High standout Lynn Miller. Max Miller is a junior this season for the Jags.
