Prep Baseball: Greyhounds ground Indians 9-3 in Region 4-7A opener Tuesday night

OCEAN SPRINGS — It certainly didn’t appear like it was too early to begin region play for Ocean Springs Tuesday night.
The home-standing Greyhounds dispatched Biloxi 9-3 in the Region 4-7A opener for both team here at Greyhound Field. The win keeps OSHS perfect at 6-0 so far on the season, while the Indians fall to 1-5 overall.
The start of league action this season came just two weeks into the new campaign for the largest classification of schools on the Gulf Coast, the first such instance in over 50 years.
Tuesday’s game was the first of three between the two teams this week.

Both teams jumped out of the gate quickly, as each posted two runs apiece in the first frame.
The Indians got an RBI-single from Jordan May to open the scoring, and Adam Rugg scored on a passed ball during the same at bat.
The Greyhounds answered immediately, as Justin San Miguel drew a bases-loaded RBI-walk and A.J. Rossi scored on a wild pitch.
Ocean Springs then took the lead for good in the second stanza, by repeating that output from the opening inning, when Rossi drove a two-run single back to center field to make it 4-2.

Two innings later, the home team took complete control with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Ocean Springs loaded the bases with no outs, and Adam Clower got plunked with a pitch to bring the first run home. Tristan Fox followed with an RBI-walk, and Peyton Meleady’s run-scoring sacrifice fly made it 7-2. Easton Fox also drew a bases-loaded walk, and Meleady scored on a BHS error.
Both San Miguel, a Troy University signee, and Rojas had two hits apiece for OSHS.
Johan Baez started and worked into the seventh stanza to earn the pitching win, striking out eight and allowing seven hits while walking none.
Indian hurlers combined to walk seven and strike out nine with eight hits yielded. Evan Porter took the loss.
Cayden Einhaus had two hits for Biloxi, including a double, and Gage Delferes also had two hits for the Indians.
Both teams face off again at The Biloxi Sports Complex Friday night, before reconvening at Greyhound Field Saturday afternoon.
