VANCLEAVE — Vancleave hosted St. Martin Friday afternoon in its annual matinee affair designed especially for the student body.
And the Bulldogs gave their classmates reason to cheer.
Vancleave shut out the Yellow Jackets 7-0 at “The Landing” in the yearly event. The Bulldogs evened up their overall mark at 3-3 with the win, while St. Martin fell to 4-3 with its third straight loss after a 4-0 start.

The final score wasn’t necessarily indicative of how close the game was throughout, however, as VHS led just 1-0 thanks to an RBI-double by Kyle Capers in the third frame.
Meanwhile, that would be prove to be enough for Bulldog starting pitcher Carter Fazio, who twirled a complete game four-hit shout to earn the win.
But, just for good measure, Vancleave tallied a six spot in the bottom of the ixth stanza to break things open.
The big blow in the inning was a two-run double by Cam Sherrod, and another run scored on an error on the same play to make it 4-0. Harrison Henry then delivered a two-run single to make it 6-0 and seal the deal.
