OCEAN SPRINGS — It hasn’t taken very long for Ocean Springs to find a new number one starting pitcher to replace Jack Jordan atop the rotation.
Pascagoula transfer Johan Baez picked up his second straight Region 4-7A win in as many starts Tuesday night, as the home-standing Greyhounds shut out Harrison Central 5-0. The win moves OSHS to 9-0 on the season, including 4-0 in the region race, while the Red Rebels drop to 0-4 in the loop and 3-7 overall.

Baez worked six solid stanzas of two-hit ball, striking out nine and walking just two. Colton French came in for the seventh and closed things out.
Baez has stepped up after moving across the county to replace Jordan, who was stellar in his two seasons as the Greyhound ace. Last week, Baez went just over six innings in earning a 9-3 win over Biloxi to open region action, striking out eight.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick lead they would never relinquish on an RBI-double from Troy signee Justin San Miguel in the bottom of the first.
The home team extended the advantage to 3-0 on back-to-back run-scoring singles from Adam Clower and San Miguel in the third frame.

Consecutive single run frames in the fifth and sixth innings, on RBI-singles by Tristan Fox and A.J. Rossi, respectively, closed things out.
San Miguel, Clower and Lucas Sinopoli each collected three hits apiece to lead the winning 13-hit attack for OSHS.
Harrison Central starter Bubba Harris went five frames and took the loss.
Both teams head to Lyman to continue the three game series Friday night before reconvening at Greyhound Park Saturday afternoon.
