JACKSON — The Harrison Central girls basketball program has won 13 state championships in the last five decades.
Now, on Friday night, the Red Rebelettes hope to add yet another Gold Ball to the trophy case sitting in the Lyman school.
Harrison Central faces Starkville here at 6 p.m., in the Mississippi Coliseum with the Class 7A state title on the line. The Red Rebelettes are 27-5 overall while the Lady YellowJackets are 28-3 and are looking for their sixth state championship all-time.

Harrison Central head coach Sandra Rushing has the Red Rebelettes back in the state title tilt for the 17th time, as HCHS looks for its first Gold Ball since 2005. The 21-year absence is by far the longest drought without a state title for the program since winning its first in 1977.
On Tuesday, in the semifinals, HCHS junior Dandy Dozen standout Saniyah Murrah posted a double-double with 23 points and 20 rebounds as the Red Rebelettes got past Madison Central 56-40. P.J. Floyd had a game-high 25 points for the Red Rebelettes.
Harrison Central last played for all the marbles in 2022.

Starkville moved into the finals after upsetting top-ranked Biloxi for the second consecutive year in the Final Four, pulling out a stunning 41-34 win.
Starkville outscored the Lady Indians 14-2 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Jada Gay had 20 points to lead the Lady Yellowjackets, while Jade Brown added nine points for Starkville.
Starkville, which fell in the state finals last season to Tupelo, is looking for its first crown since 2018.
