OCEAN SPRINGS — Ocean Springs nipped perennial state power Jackson Prep Monday night 2-1 here at Greyhound Park in the 10th annual Battle at the Beach.
It marked the third straight season that OSHS hosted the Patriots to open the full week of play in the event, and third-year head coach Ryne Long’s Greyhounds are now 2-0-1 in those games.

The win kept OSHS perfect on the current campaign at an impressive 12-0 overall. Prep is now 8-6.
The Patriots managed to out-hit OSHS four to two, but the Greyhounds doubled Prep up in the important category, runs.
The home team wasted no time in taking a quick 1-0 lead on a Patriot throwing error after a single by Victor Rojas in the bottom of the first, as lead off batter A.J. Rossi came around to score on the miscue after opening the frame with a walk.
Ocean Springs got an RBI-double from Justin San Miguel, that also scored Rossi, in the third frame to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, Greyhound starter Adam Clower only allowed a hit through four scoreless frames to pick up the win, while striking out five. Prep picked up its lone run against OSHS reliever Peyton Meleady, who finished up the final three innings and allowed three hits.
Peter Primos had a game-high two hits for the Patriots.
Ocean Springs is back at home Tuesday night, hosting Madison Ridgeland Academy.
