VANCLEAVE — Last week, Vancleave won the Pascagoula City championship.
This week, the Bulldogs look to make some more noise against competition from across the rest of the state and the South.
Vancleave is on a five game win streak as it opens play in the 10th annual Battle at The Beach Tuesday night at home, facing Tupelo. The Bulldogs sit at 6-3 overall, after a rough 1-3 start to the current campaign.
Second-year head coach Zac Haraala’s squad is coming off a 14-1 thumping over visiting Resurrection over the weekend. Prior to that, Vancleave swept a close two game, home-and-home series with Pascagoula High 5-4 in eight innings and 8-7 in game two.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs kept RCS winless with ease, as Wyatt Adams led the way in the winning attack with a game-high three hits and he drove in three runs in the game that was called after the topr of the fifth frame.
Vancleave tallied five runs in each of the sec ond and third innings, and then added four more in the bottom of the fourth just for good measure.
In addition to the big day at the plate from Adams, the Bulldogs also got two hits, including an RBI-double, from Reece Thomason. Cam Sherrod posted a run-scoring triple, while Harrison Henry drove in three runs as well.
Believe it or not, Resurrection actually took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI-ground out by Porter Jordan before the on-slaught by the home team began.
Adams and Thomason combined on the mound to limit the Eagles to just two hits, and Thomason got the win with three frames of work.
Sully May took the loss for RCS, which dropped to 0-9 overall with the loss.
After facing the Golden Wave Tuesday night, VHS will host Briarcrest Christian of Memphis, Tenn.
