BILOXI — Don’t look now, but George County has won three straight games on the baseball diamond.
The Rebels struck for two quick runs Thursday and then doubled down on that total a couple of innings later in slipping past Hernando 4-1 here at Kessler Federal Park in the last game for GCHS in action at the 10th annual Battle for the Beach.
George County now stands 10-5 overall, after starting the season off at 0-3. The Rebels, though, under the direction of veteran head coach Brandon Davis, have now won 10 out of their past 12 games.

Versatile George County senior standout Carson Pierce wasted no time in giving his team a quick lead it would never relinquish with a one-out, run-scoring triple in the top of the first frame that plated Grant Reeves. Reeves led the game off with a double.
Then, Cayler Havard immediately followed with an RBI-double to drive home Pierce to make it 3-0.
A Rebel fielding error helped Hernandon cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the third, but the would be all of the scoring the Tigers could manage the rest of the day.
And, George County responded in fast fashion on back-to-back RBI-singles from both Peyton Havard and Carson Odom in its next at bat to wrap things up.

Meanwhile GCHS starting pitcher Braydn Havard was in complete control on the hill, turning in a complete game three-hit worksheet to earn the win while striking out 13 in an impressive performance.
Pierce paced the Rebels at the plate with a game-high three hits, while Reeves and Peyton Havard each had two hits apiece also. One of Havard’s hits was a double as well.

The Rebels will head to Hattiesburg Saturday to take on home-standing Presbyterian Christian.
