GULFPORT — Gulfport finished up play in the 10th annual Battle at the Beach in fine fashion.
The home-standing Admirals nipped Collierville (Tenn.) Friday night 4-2 Friday night. That win came after a 10-9 win over Starkville Academy earlier in the week also at Herbert Wilson Park.
The two wins move Gulfport to 8-5 overall under the direction of first-year head coach Myles Gentry. The admirals began BATB play with a 9-0 loss to Catholic High of Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday.

Friday night, Gulfport broke open a 2-2 tie with a two spot in a decisive bottom of the fifth frame, thanks to a youth movement on a run-scoring sacrifice fly by eighth-grader Tico Hebert and then freshman Eli Carter scored on a passed ball after reaching base on a single earlier in the inning.
Carter doubled in the first frame and also came around to score on a passed ball to erase an early 1-0 deficit and tie things back up at 1-1.
James Van Slyke also scored on a passed ball in the third frame for GHS.
Carter had two hits to guide the Admirals offensively.

Carter Carriere picked up the pitching win for the Admirals with five solid stanzas of relief work, allowing three hits and striking out six while giving up one run. Thomas Stennis started on the hill for GHS.
Meanwhile, Carter drove in two runs earlier in the week in that 10-9 walk-off win over Starkville Academy. Hebert, Van Slyke, Mason Little, Brant Rounsaville, Tavion Collier and Bash Plummer also drove in a run apiece for the Admirals.
Little’s run-scoring sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the seventh provided the game-winning run.

Stennis picked up the win after recording the final out in the top of the seventh. Collier started and worked the first six innings, striking out 11 in the process.
Gulfport returns to Region 4-7A play, taking on West Harrison next week. The Admirals are 3-0 in the region race but will resume league play after a 17-day break.
