HATTIESBURG — The second one was a little tougher than the first, but in the end the overall result was the same for the George County baseball team in Region 3-6A play this week.

The Rebels rallied past home-standing Hattiesburg Friday night 11-9 here at historic Smokey Harrington Park. The win, combined with an 11-1 mercy rule win Tuesday at home, moves GCHS to 4-0 in the region race and 12-6 overall.

The Tigers looked ready to even the series up, seemingly in command up 7-2 entering the seventh stanza. But a nine-run rally by the Rebels erased that deficit and put the visitors ahead 11-9, and that proved to be just enough cushion to hold on for the win.

The Rebels sent 14 batters to the plate in the decisive inning, and posted seven of their 10 total hits in the process in that at bat alone. Grant Reeves, Carson Pierce and Chandler Cameron each delivered a double in the eruption, and GCHS also took advantage of a couple of Tiger errors, a wild pitch and three walks.

Pierce and Pascual each had two hits apiece to pace GCHS offensively, while Cayler Havard and Maddox Dunn each drove in a pair of runs apiece in the winning effort.

Brayden Havard tossed six stanzas to pick up the win, striking out 11 and allowing six hits.

The loss overshadowed an impressive performance at the plate from Hattiesburg’s Chauncey Parhm, who had two hits and drove in a game-high five runs.

On Tuesday, Dunn had a three-run triple and Cameron also drove in three runs as the Rebels rolled. Havard had two hits, and both Pierce and Pascaul two RBIs apiece as well.

Pierce went the game-shortened five frame distance on the mound to earn the win.
