PASCAGOULA — After a loss Tuesday to open Region 4-6A play, Picayune bounced back in fine fashion.

The Maroon Tide slipped past Pascagoula 3-1 at home Friday night and followed that up with a 2-1 road win Saturday afternoon, after falling to the Panthers 6-0 earlier in the week. The two wins push Picayune to 2-1 in the region race and 8-8 overall, while Pascagoula is now 4-12 overall and falls to 1-2 in league play.

In the series finale Saturday, Maroon Tide base runner Bryson Faria reached on an a Panther fielding error to lead off the top of the sixth stanza and then came around to score just a few pitches later on yet another miscue by the home team off a ground ball by Blaine Ashe to make it 2-0 and give Picayune enough cushion to hold on for the win.

Blaze Kellar’s RBI-single in the fourth put Picayune ahead to stay 1-0.

Owen Estroso’s run-scoring single for the Panthers in the bottom of the sixth cut the deficit in half at 2-1, but that would be it for Pascagoula.

Hayden Dobson paced Picayune at the plate with two hits.

Carlos Fernandez had two hits for the Panthers, including a double.

Ashe started and went the first three frames to earn the win on the hill, while Tyler Stockstill finished the final four innings to earn a save.

Izayah Sims took the loss for Pascagoula.

On Friday night in Picayune, the Maroon Tide pushed across single runs in each of the first, third and fifth innings to seal the win.

Picayune managed just five hits, but they were each timely as Ashe delivered an RBI-triple and Eli Schubert had a run-scoring double in the winning effort.

Sean Norvel collected a pair of doubles for Pascagoula, and Carlos Fernandez also had two hits.

Kendall Blevins picked up the pitching win for Picayune with five solid stanzas for work, and Colt Robertsom mopped up over the last two innings to earn a save.

Fernandez took the loss for the Panthers.
