GULFPORT — The first major battle for supremacy in Region 4-7A on the baseball diamond is set for this week.

Defending league champ Ocean Springs heads to Herbert Wilson Park to face home-standing Gulfport Tuesday night to open a three game series. The Greyhounds are a perfect 6-0 in the region race, but have been off from league play for the past two weeks. Meanwhile, the Admirals are at 5-1 in region action and sitting just behind OSHS and D’Iberville, which is 8-1.

Ocean Springs bounced back from its first two losses of the season with two more wins last week.

The Greyhounds picked up a pair of wins in the Gulf Coast Classic II in L.A. (Lower Alabama) with a 16-1 win Tuesday night over home-standing Gulf Shores in just four innings and following that up with a close 1-0 victory over Huntsville (Ala.) Whitesburg Christian Wednesday afternoon at Fairhope High.

The two wins move OSHS to a solid 14-2 on the season so far.

In the big win over the Dolphins Tuesday, Adam Clower, Easton Bahr and Maddox Russell each collected two hits and three RBIs apiece for the Greyhounds, while A.J. Rossi had two hits, including a double, and drdove in two runs as well. One of Bahr’s hits was a triple, and Tristan Fox had a double in the winning effort as well.

Johan Baez picked up the pitching win.

Then, in the exciting win over Whitesburg Christian, Victor Rojas provided the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Both Rojas and Peyton Meleady posted a pair of hits apiece for OSHS.

Colton French earned the win with one inning of relief, and he combined with the starter Fox and middle man Manny Huffman to limit the Warriors to two hits on the day and no runs.

Meanwhile, Gulfport is 10-6 overall after winning two of three games in a region series over West Harrison last week.

The series wrapped up with a 12-0 Admirals win Saturday at home over the Hurricanes.

Brant Rounsaville had two hits, including a three-run double, and he drove in a game-high four runs, while Brodie Hignight also had a pair of hits, including a three-run home run.

Carter Carriere tossed a three-hit shutout to earn the win, in the game that was shortened to six innings.

Game two on Friday night was also all Admirals, in an 11-0 win in jist five frames.

Tico Hebert had two RBI’s for Gulfport.

Tavion Collier earned the pitching win.
