GULFPORT — Ocean Springs extended its win streak over Gulfport to seven straight games Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds completed a three game sweep of the Admirals in Region 4-7A play with an exciting 2-1 win here at Herbert Wilson Park. The win, which kept OSHS perfect at 9-0 in the region race, was also the eighth in nine tries against Gulfport since expansion to seven classifications by the MHSAA just before the 2024 season and makes the league-leading Greyhounds a solid 17-2 overall.

It’s the longest win streak for OSHS over the Admirals on the baseball diamond in over 20 years.

Greyhound base-runner Tristan Fox stole home with two outs and two strikes on batter Maddox Russell to provide the winning run in a double steal, as GH pitcher Tavion Collier turned to throw to second and attempt to nab Justin San Miguel, who was racing from first-to-second. The throw back home was late.

“We kinda gambled,” OSHS head coach Ryne Long said. “We ran a hang up play, and the kids executed it right. Tristan made a great read at third and got a good jump, then made a very heads up slide at the plate to barely beat the throw.”

Fox’s first frame RBI-single gave the Greyhounds a quick 1-0 lead.

Gulfport knotted things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a run-soring single by James Van Slyke.

Besides that, and the chaotic climax, both pitching staffs were in control.

A trio of OSHS hurlers in Patterson Gilfoil, Peyton Meleady and Colton French all combined on the five-hit win, with Meleady getting the win in relief of Gilfoil and French earning a save.

Both Fox and San Miguel had two hits apiece to lead OSHS offensively. San Miguel had a double and A.J. Rossi led off the game with a triple and scored on Fox’s first hit.

Collier was saddled with the tough-luck loss, despite his complete game outing, allowing six hits and striking out nine.

Gulfport fell to 10-9 overall and 5-4 in the region race.

After taking game one 2-0 on Tuesday also on the road, Fox twirled a complete game, one-hit shutout at the Admirals Friday night in a 4-0 home win in game two.

San Miguel also had two hits in that one, including an RBI-double in a decisive three run bottom of the sixth stanza. Easton Fox had a triple.
