VANCLEAVE — Hancock multi-sport senior standout Jaxson Knight is the “Southern Six Senior Spotlight” sponsored by Burnham Drugs this week.

Each week of the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports along with Burnham Drugs will highlight a deserving student/athlete in the “Southern Six”.

Knight is in the midst of one of the most successful senior seasons in Hancock school history, and his versatility over the athletic spectrum for multiple Hawks programs has propelled the HHS baseball team to one of its most successful seasons in team history.

This week, Knight had six hits and nine RBIs, including a pair of home runs, in just two games as the Hawks swept a three game series from Gautier in Region 4-6A play to move to a perfect 9-0 in the loop and a solid 19-2 overall.

On Friday, Hancock bagged 11 hits in just four innings offensively, led by Knight who posted game-high totals in both hits with three and RBIs with four. As part of his impressive worksheet, he cracked a two-run home run with no outs in the top of the first to set the tone for the rest of the day.

Also, in the series opener on Tuesday, he smacked a grand slam at the plate and he also hurled a complete game one-hitter with eight strike outs on the hill to pick up the pitching win as well in an 9-2 road win over Gautier.

Knight finished up with game-high totals of three hits and five RBIs.

Knight also started as a defensive lineman for the Hancock football team as well as a center on the Haks hoops squad.
