Prep Baseball: St. Martin solidifies spot with 16-4 win over HCHS Saturday afternoon

By Sam Staff/Sports Writer LYMAN — St. Martin solidified its spot for one of four playoff berths in Region 4-7A Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets finished up a solid holiday weekend with their second win over Harrison Central in a 24 hour span with a 16-4 win over the home-standing Red Rebels in six stanzas. The win moves St. Martin into a tie at 8-4 in the region race with Gulfport for third place, as the two teams prepare for a three game series next week.

Yellow Jacket senior standout Caleb Lawrence collected a game and career high six RBIs in the big win, as well as three hits as he posted a three-run triple and a two-run single as well. Brandon Stork carried a big stick as well, as he drove in four runs on three hits, including a pair of two-run singles. Kaden Walker chipped in three hits also to the game-winning 11-hit attack, including an RBI-triple, and Jace Jones had RBIs also. Freshman Caiden Griffin picked up the pitching win, as SMHS moved to 13-8 overall.

M.J. Conner led the Red Rebels with three hits, while Parrish Laiche had two hits and two RBIs also. Bubba Harris took the loss on the hill, as HCHS fell to 2-13 in the region race and 6-17 overall. On Friday night, the Yellow Jackets took a hard-fought 4-2 win at home in game two of the series. The Yellow Jackets notched a single run in each of the second, third, fourth and sixth innings to seal the series.

Both Jones and Kaden Walker each had two hits apiece, including an RBI-double each, in the win while Stork had a double and Noah Jenner an RBI-triple. River Groue got 20 outs in almost seven full suanzas of work, striking out seven to earn the win. Connor Harrison had two hits for HCHS. Tanner Rawls took the loss.
