CARRIERE — During his time as head coach at Pearl River Central, Neil Walther led the Blue Devils to more wins in 17 seasons than any other leader of any other sport in school history.
However, his first trip occupying the visitors’ dugout wasn’t as successful.
PRC slipped past Hancock 4-3 in a key Region 4-6A showdown Tuesday night. The win puts PRC on the verge of claiming the league title, as the home team remained perfect at 13-0 in the region race and sits 21-5 overall.

The Hawks, meanwhile, in Walther’s first year at the helm, drop their second league game in a week and fall to 11-2 in the region race and 21-4 overall.
It was the Hawks that set the tone early though, as the visiting team registered three runs in the top of the first frame as as Jaxton Necaise, Roston Ragon and Coleton Hopgood each drove in a run apiece.
However, PRC bounced back to tie things up at 3-3 with a three run third as Blake Gill cracked a two-run triple and Eric Mavor, Jr., followed with an RBI-single.

The final run of the contest came in the next at bat for the Blue Devils, as J.J. Morealle delivered a two-out triple and Kendall Morrison followed with a run-scoring double.
Morrison and Landyn Wilson each tallied three hits apiece to pace PRC at the plate.
Ayden Radosta went the distance on the hill, scattering four hits, to pick up the pitching win.

Game two is set for Friday in the Kiln.
