Prep Baseball: Rock-A-Chaws rolling into second round of Class 3A South State playoffs

BAY ST. LOUIS — St. Stanislaus is once again headed to the second round of the Class 3A South State playoffs. The Rock-A-Chaws made easy work of Port Gibson and didn’t allow a run in the opening round of the Class 3A South State playoffs over the weekend, sweeping the Blue Wave 11-0 in game one on the road Friday and 15-0 in game two to wrap things up Saturday at home. St. Stanislaus is now 15-9 overall under the direction of first year head coach Irby Dossett.

In the series finale, Tate Murphy had three hits, including a home run, and he drove in three runs while Owyn Cuevas also had a pair of hits and drove in a trio of runs. Ayden Dartez collected three hits in the winning effort, while Lex Rhodes, Jackson Orozco and Warren Gunter each also posted a pair of hits in the winning 16-hit attack in which SSC batted in just three innings. Cuevas got the pitching win.

In the series opener, both Murphy and Cuevas each had two hits, including a double apiece, while Orozco drove in a game-high three runs. Orozco went the five frame distance on the mound to earn the win. The Rocks face Southeast Lauderdale in the next round.
