BAY ST. LOUIS — St. Stanislaus senior standout Tate Murphy gets the “Baria Law Firm Game Ball of the Week” this week.

Every week throughout the end of the school year, we will honor student/athletes across the “Southern Six” with our “Game Ball of the Week” sponsored by David Baria, Attorney-Mediator.

Murphy, a solid shortstop in the field and at a stout presence at the plate, was a major force for the Rock-A-Chaws as they once again are headed to the second round of the Class 3A South State playoffs.

The Rock-A-Chaws made easy work of Port Gibson and didn’t allow a run in the opening round of the Class 3A South State playoffs over the weekend, sweeping the Blue Wave 11-0 in game one on the road Friday and 15-0 in game two to wrap things up Saturday at home.

In the series finale, Murphy had three hits, including a home run, and he drove in three runs Saturday. In game one on the road Friday, Murphy had two hits, including a double.

His impressive senior season performance at SSC was recently recognized as he was selected to be a part of the South squad in the annual Crossroads Diamond Club Classic All-Star contest for the smaller classification schools.

Murphy and his Rocks roll into the second round of the state playoffs later this week against Southeast Lauderdale. Game one is Friday at 7:00 on the road, game two is Saturday at 2:00 at home, with a third game if needed on Monday at 7:00.
