KILN — The Hancock High softball team fell at home in game one of its Class 6A South State playoff series against West Jones.
However, the Lady Hawks bounced back in fine fashion.
Home-standing Hancock corralled the Lady Mustangs Monday night for the second straight game, but the 8-2 win in the rubber match Monday night secured the series win for HHS and pushes head coach Josef Rankin’s squad into second round action against recent rival George County.





The Lady Hawks are now 14-9-1 overall after staving off elimination with a an 11-9 road win in Soso Friday. West Jones took game one 4-2.
On Monday, after West Jones, slipped out to a slight 1-0 lead, it was all Hancock after that. The Lady Hawks bounced right back with six straight runs over the next three innings to take command of the contest.
Included in that barrage was a three-run home run and a two-run single for Lexi Dreher, who carried the big stick all night for the home team with those two hits and a game-high five RBIs.
Miley Spears posted a game-high three hits, including an RBI-double, while Jaycee Cameron chipped in two hits to the winning effort and Paityn Langley had a triple.





McKinlee Campbell went the distance in the circle to earn the pitching win, giving up just four hits and striking out 11.
Ambree Crumpton took the loss for the Lady Mustangs.
Hancock and George County will now meet for the third straight season in the Class 6A South State finals beginning later this week.
