OAK GROVE — It took a little longer than planned, but Ocean Springs advanced in the Class 7A South State softball playoffs Monday night.
The Lady Greyhounds dispatched Oak Grove 8-1 on the road to complete a sweep of that opening round series Monday night. The win moves OSHS to a solid 23-7 overall, as head coach Lindsay (O’Brien) Linton’s squad prepares to face longtime arch-rival St. Martin in the Class 7A South State semifinals later this week.

After a 12-0 win in game one at home in four frames for OSHS Friday night, Saturday’s scheduled game two was rained out and moved to Monday. And just like in the series opener, the Lady Greyhounds never trailed in this one after K’Lee Gum’s two-run single in the top of the second set the tone. Gum finished with three hits, and she drove in three runs as well.
Emma Franklin, also the ace of the OSHS pitching staff, smacked a two-run home run in the fifth as well. She finished with two hits and a trio of RBIs.
Kerrigan Scott also chipped in three hits to the winning cause, and both Gracie Shepherd and Taylor Farra posted a double apiece.

In the circle, Franklin twirled a complete game, three-hitter striking out 12 to earn the win.
Londyn McNair had two hits for OGHS. Cambri Sumrall took the pitching loss.

Meanwhile, St. Martin went on the road in game three and eliminated Petal Monday night as well.
