LUCEDALE — Defending Class 6A state champ George County is one win away from getting a chance to get back to the title round.
The Lady Rebels knocked off visiting Hancock 2-1 in game one of the Class 6A South State semifinal series Thursday night. George County now has two shots at returning to the South State title series, starting Monday night in the Kiln.

Head coach Anna Grace Rigby’s squad now sits at a solid 25-6 overall, while the Lady Hawks are 14-10-1 overall and now must win two straight in this series to keep their season alive.
In the opener, George County tallied both of its runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead it would never relinquish. Both Blakely Slay and Braylee Bishop posted RBI-singles to provide the GCHS runs.
With Lady Rebel senior standout pitcher Addison Davis in complete control in the circle, all Hancock could manage all evening was a run-scoring ground-out off the bat of McKinlee Campbell.

Meanwhile, the Dandy Dozen product Davis twirled a complete game four-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the win.
Both “Big Play” Slay and Addysin Chavers each posted two hits, including a double apiece, to pace the Lady Rebels offensively.
Miley Spears had two hits for Hancock.
Campbell took the loss.
