SOSO — West Jones rallied in extra innings to keep its season alive Monday night.
The Mustangs got a walk-off, game-winning RBI-single from Jean Carlos Gomez with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with a 3-2 win and even the series with Pearl River Central up at one game apiece.

The decision sets up a third and final winner-take-all match-up Tuesday night back in Carriere. The survivor moves on to face George County later this week in the Class 6A South State finals with a berth to the state championship round at stake.
West Jones came to bat in the bottom of the ninth trailing 2-1, after Blue Devil batter Parker Harper put his team up 2-1 with an RBI-single with two outs in the top of the second extra session.
But, the Mustnags rallied for two runs, including a run-scoring single by Kolt Locklear that knotted things back up at 2-2 and set the stage for the climactic ending.

PRC is now 26-6 overall, while WJHS is 19-11.
Blue Devil starting pitcher did yeoman’s work on the mound, working deep into the ninth inning and throwing 120 pitches before being saddled with the tough luck loss. Reliever L. Lowe gave up the game-winning hit after coming on for Mitchell.

Both Kendall Morrison and Luke Herring posted three hits apiece to pace PRC at the plate, while both Morrison and Blake Gill had a double apiece.
Mustang hurler Landon Newcomb earned the win with just over two stanzas of relief work.
