KILN — Veteran George County head baseball coach Brandon Davis has led his Rebels to 296 total wins and five state championship appearances in two different classifications over the past 15 years.
However, after a series sweep over Hancock earlier this week, he now has his squad headed to its third straight South State championship series for the first time in program history.

George County clipped the home-standing Hawks 8-3 Monday night to take the two game sweep. Now, the Rebels, at 23-9 overall, will host Pearl River Central for the third straight season in the Class 6A South State title tilt.
In the latest win for the Rebels, senior standout starting pitcher Carson Pierce went the distance on the hill to earn the win, and was pretty much in complete control after a sluggish first frame as he scattered five hits and struck out seven in the process.
His Rebels never trailed, after plating three runs in the top of the first thanks in large part to a two-run single from East Central transfer Maddox Dunn.
But Hancock had one last gasp in it to stave off elimination, bouncing back in its first at bat with an RBI-double from Jaxson Knight and a run-scoring single from Jaxton Necaise to make it 3-2.

However, a three-run third by George County, which included an RBI-single by Harrison Havard, basically sealed the deal for the Rebels at 6-2.
Harrison Havard, Peyton Havard and Chandler Cameron each posted two hits apiece for GCHS, while Dunn had those two RBIs. Both Harrison Havard and Cayler Havard each had a double.
Gavyn Cuevas started and worked in to the seventh to take the loss for the Hawks.
Necaise collected a game-high three hits to pace Hancock, including a double.
