CARRIERE — Pearl River Central standout Blake Gill is the “Southern Six Senior Spotlight” sponsored by Burnham Drugs this week.

Each week of the school year, we here at SouthMiss6 Sports along with Burnham Drugs will highlight a deserving student/athlete in the “Southern Six”.

Gill has been a force at the plate all season long for PRC, in helping the Blue Devils to a solid 27-6 overall record, a Region 4-6A title and a third straight berth in the Class 6A South State championship round.

In a the South State semifinal series against West Jones, Gill was the offensive catalyst in the 11-1 series-clinching win Tuesday night as he registered a career best night at the plate as he collected three hits and six RBIs.

The Mustangs took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the third and deciding game. But, after that, it was all Blue Devils.

PRC responded with 11 straight runs over its next four at bats to storm back and secure the big win. The barrage started with a two-run home run by Gill in the Blue Devils first at bat, as the home team took a lead it would never relinquish.

Gill followed with a two-run single in the second stanza, when PRC scored four runs to make it 6-1. Then, in the third frame, four more runs followed including more from Gill with a two-run single to seal the deal at 10-1.

In a 7-3 win to open the series, Gill also posted an RBI-single in a three-run third inning, then sealed the deal for PRC with a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth.
