Prep Baseball: Game one between PRC and George County now set for Monday

LUCEDALE — The opening game of the Class 5A South State championship series has been postponed until next week.

George County is now set to host Pearl River Central Monday night in game one here at Claude Passeau Field. Game two is set for Tuesday night in Carriere, as the teams decided which will earn a trip to the overall Class 6A state finals. Game times both nights is 7 p.m.

The Rebels are expected to send Bradyn Havard and Carson Pierce to the pitchers mound in game one and two as starters, and the Blue Devils should counter with Roman Mitchell and Ayden Radosta in no specific order.

The pair of old and familar foes in GCHS and PRC are about to face off for the fifth straight year in the postseason, and for the third consecutive season in the Class 6A South State Championship series.

George County, the Region 3-6A champ, is 23-9 overall this season after winning the past Region 4-6A titles the past two campaigns. However, PRC, now at a solid 27-6 overall, is now the Region 4-6A top seed after taking the title in Region 3-6A the past two seasons.

The two teams swapped regions over the Summer during bi-annual reclassification by the MHSAA.

In this round, the Blue Devils will be looking for some revenge after George County has sent them packing the last two years in the same round. The Rebels went on to win the 2024 Class 6A state title, before falling to Saltillo in the finals last year.

By the time first pitch of he series opener comes rolling around, GCHS will have had exactly one week off while PRC will be at six days rest after both teams finished off their respective Class 6A South State semifinal series’ off earlier this week.

The Rebels, who are looking for their third straight trip to the state finals for the first time in program history, swept both Hancock and Long Beach so far in the playoffs to get to this point.
