HATTIESBURG — Seven state championship trophies were handed out late last week here at the Southern Miss Softball Complex at the annual overall state softball championship tournament.

This season, no “Southern Six” squad was able to bring home the coveted crown. Both Ocean Springs and George County went down to the final two games of the annual affair still alive and with hopes of winning state, but both fell Friday afternoon in excrutiating fashion in their respective game threes in Class 7A and Class 6A, respectively.
