PEARL —Once again, the all-state picks for all seven prep baseball classifications were announced at the conclusion of the annual state baseball tournaments over the weekend.

These all-state teams are chosen by coaches in the Mississippi Association of Coaches.

The Poplarville pair of Jett Smith and Ty Keys were the only “Southern Six” products honored with the Class 4A First Team All-State status this season.

Here are the selections for Class 4A:

— Last week, Mooreville swept Poplarville in two straight games to capture the Class 4A state title at Trustmark Park in Pearl. It marked the 10th overall state title for the Troopers.

Eli McDaniels of Mooreville went 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs scored in the Troopers 15-8 and 4-2 wins over Poplarville to claim the MHSAA Class 4A state championship.

For the Hornets, Chadwick Brown was 4-for-7 at the plate with three RBI’s in those same two games as PHS played for its first state title in 52 years, and first since 1974 as well as just second ever.
