OCEAN SPRINGS — For the first time ever, one of New Orleans most well-traveled and iconic bands is coming to Ocean Springs.
The Iguanas will be the featured artists in the latest installment of “Jazz fest in OS”, the on-going live music series that brings some of the great bands that have played the greatest music festival in the world over the past several decades to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Iguanas will headline “Jazz Fest in OS” at the Courtyard at OS 1515 on Sat., Aug. 1st. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., and tickets are already on sale at http://www.grandmagmusic.com.https://www,grandmagmusic.com

For the past 35 years, The Iguanas have set about to redefine the Americana genre, crossing cultures, eras, and languages with a fusion of blues, classic R&B, zydeco, Tex-Mex, and roots rock.
A fixture of the New Orleans music scene for over three decades, The Iguanas’ music is an infectious mix of America’s musical heritage – Tejano and Conjunto sounds from the Texas/Mexico border region, as best exemplified by the accordion and bajo sexto, the American South’s Blues, Jazz and New Orleans R&B, and the fiery passion of the music of the Caribbean and Mexico.
The band has featured in some form or fashion at the last 32 New Orleans Jazz Festivals.

Taking their cues from all of these influences and then some, The Iguanas redefine the notion of Americana, crossing cultures, styles, eras… and even languages. It’s as if Rue Bourbon, Muscle Shoals and Plaza de Mexico were all within earshot of each other, and The Iguanas were the musical conduit between them.
Therefore, it is not surprising then that the members of The Iguanas have (collectively or individually) played or recorded with everyone from Charlie Rich, Alex Chilton, and Willy DeVille to Emmylou Harris, Allen Toussaint, and Pretty Lights.

The Iguanas’ 30-year road may not exactly have driven them from sin to sin, but it’s taken them all over the map, both figuratively and literally.

It’s almost as if the Iguanas dragged sand up from Juarez and mud from the Mississippi Delta, threw them both into the white-hot crucible of rock, and built their foundation from there
