Prep Football Notebook: No Bay High-PRC match-up this year; Top QB 1’s noticed at camp

There will be no season-opening game between longtime “Southern Six” foes Bay High and Pearl River Central on the football field this season.

The game, which was originally scheduled for Fri., Aug., 28th at Hendrix Stadium in Carriere, has been cancelled and both the Tigers and Blue Devils have found other opponents to kick off the new campaign with.

Bay High second-year head coach Katlan French confirmed the change to SouthMiss6 Sports Sunday afternoon. The two teams had met the last three straight seasons.

Instead of facing off for the 52nd time overall on the gridiron, Bay High will host Faith Academy out of Mobile, Ala., to open the season and PRC will head to Waynesboro to take on home-standing Wayne County. Both games will be on Fri., Aug. 28th.

It will mark the first meeting ever between Bay High and Faith in football. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils and War Eagles will tangle for 12th time overall and the first time in six seasons.

Top QB’s

And speaking of PRC, the Blue Devils were one of five teams represented on the list of “top returning Mississippi quarterbacks in the MHSAA” recently by The Clarion Ledger of Jackson.

The list was comprised of 25 signal-callers, including a few from the private school ranks as well.

Chalmers Berglind

Ocean Springs | 6-1, 175 | Junior

Berglind passed for 1,685 yards last season with 17 touchdowns while averaging 153.2 passing yards per game.

Titus Feaster

Pearl River Central | 6-2, 195 | Junior

Feaster had thrown for 2,120 yards with 19 touchdowns and added 953 yards on the ground with 13 TDs.

Keon McNeil

Gautier | 6-0, 155 | Sophomore

The freshman had the most passing yards in the state as a ninth grader with 2,267 and added 19 touchdowns on 174 completions.

Jordan Ramsey

Biloxi | 6-1, 195 | Senior

Ramsey had 16 total touchdowns with 1,400 passing yards and over 400 rushing yards last season.

Paris Trivillion

Pass Christian | 6-1, 180 | Senior

Trivillion helped Pass Christian to its most wins in school history (11) and added 2,570 yards passing with 1,120 rushing and 49 total touchdowns.

QB Camp

Several of those top signal-callers mentioned, including Feaster, Trivillion, McNeil and Ramsay, attended the recent “601 Elite Quarterback Showcase” that took place once again at M.M. Roberts Stadium in Hattiesburg on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi.

PRC alum Wyatt Davis was once again at the controls of the gathering that brought together quite an impressive collection of prep quarterbacks from all over the state of Mississippi and surrounding areas as well.
