PASCAGOULA — As Resurrection heads toward the kick off of a new football season, there won’t be much on the schedule that should surprise new head coach Scott Sisson.
That’s because, as he enters his 16th season with the Eagles, he’s pretty much seen every foe that the Eagles will encounter.
At the end of last season, Eric Denmark stepped down as RCS head coach after four seasons at the helm of the squad. Sisson, the former RCS head coach, is stepping back into the role as head coach after serving as Denmark’s assistant head coach and offensive coordinator over the past few years, and Denmark will move back into his role as an assistant in which he spent his first decade as before being elevated into the top spot.

“This has been on my mind (stepping down) for a while now, and I thought this was the right time to step back and let Scott take over and be there as much as I can for him and support the team the best I can,” Denmark said, in late December.
Sisson returns as RCS head coach after a seven year absence. From 2013-2018, he led the Eagles to heights never seen before or since his arrival as head coach, including playing for the Class 1A state championship in 2015.
He returns after leading RCS to a 51-23 mark during those six seasons.
Prior to arriving at RCS, Sisson had a 26-year coaching career that included a stint as an assistant on staff at Moss Point. He also had a 10-year run as a head coach at both East Central and Pascagoula. He is the only head football coach in Jackson County history to lead three different football teams to the state playoffs.

This season, just like last when Sisson served as the offensive coordinator, RCS will face more non-region opponents that it does league foes.
A five game pre-region slate includes home games with Clarkdale and Amite County, as well as road games at Christian Collegiate Academy, Sacred Heart and St. Patrick.
The Eagles won’t open league play until league play until Oct. 2nd, with a home game against Richton, followed hy two more home dates with perennial playoff participants Lumberton and Taylorsville.
The Eagles went 19-23 overall under the direction of Denmark since the 2022 season, including a 1-8 mark last year in a season that was filled with inexperience, injuries and a personnel issue for the most part that hampered on-field results.
