Prep Football: Speedy Warrior Walley is third on the “Sweet 16 in the Southern 6” list

SouthMiss6 Sports is rolling out its annual roster of the top standout prep football players in our coverage area. The “Sweet 16 in the Southern Six” list was compiled by coaches and sports writers who have been following the action on the gridiron in South Mississippi for the past three decades.

Third on the list is a sought after stalwart in the Class 7A ranks:

D’Iberville | 5-9, 160 | Senior

Walley is a speedy, versatile two-way standout for the Warriors, that recently committed to Minnesota after leading D’Iberville to a solid 8-3 mark last season as a junior.

Spending most of his time at quarterback, the three-star prospect produced over 2,000 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns last year, passing for 1,368, and five touchdowns while rushing for 776 yards and racking up 16 touchdowns on the ground in the process.

Also a solid ball hawk on the defensive side of the ball, Walley recorded 31 tackles, including two tackles for loss, while adding four pass breakups and an interception to anchor the Warriors’ secondary.

Minnesota recruited him as a cornerback.

This season, Walley is looking to lead the Warriors to their first state playoff win in six years before heading North. D’Iberville opens the season on the road at Raleigh on Fri., Aug. 28th.

He will be carrying on a family tradition on the next level, just as he is at DHS. His older brother, Justin, played four seasons at Minnesota before the Indianapolis Colts picked him as a defensive back in the third round of the the latest NFL Draft. Another older brother, Jaden Walley, also played wide out at Mississippi State, totaling 146 catches and 12 touchdowns from 2020-24.

Walley will also be looking to help DHS vie for their first region title since the 2020 season also, the same year the Warriors last won a state playoff game.
