SouthMiss6 Sports is rolling out its annual roster of the top returning standout prep football players in our coverage area. The “Sweet 16 in the Southern Six” list was compiled by coaches and sports writers who have been following the action on the gridiron in South Mississippi for the past three decades.

Next up on the list is a solid interior force in the Class 7A ranks:

Julian Morris

D’Iberville | 6-3, 260 | Senior

The two-way lineman Morris recently committed to Louisiana Tech after getting a few other offers including Jacksonville State and several jucos.

Morris helped pave the way for a productive Warrior offense last season that compiled a solid 8-3 record and qualified for a berth in the Class 7A South State playoffs.

D’Iberville rang up just over 3,000 yards of total offense last season and produced 42 touchdowns on the ground.

Morris was a contributing factor in the impressive season turned in by DHS standout quarterback Jordan Walley. Walley, a classmate of Morris, is a speedy, versatile two-way standout for the Warriors that recently committed to Minnesota

Spending most of his time at quarterback, the three-star prospect produced over 2,000 yards of total offense and 21 touchdowns last year, passing for 1,368, and five touchdowns while rushing for 776 yards and racking up 16 touchdowns on the ground in the process.

And a lot of that was thanks, in part, to Morris and the work of his fellow Warrior offensive line mates.

Morris and Walley will also be looking to help DHS vie for their first region title since the 2020 season also, the same year the Warriors last won a state playoff game.

D’Iberville opens the season on the road at Raleigh on Fri., Aug. 28th.
