Prep Volleyball: Lady Greyhounds celebrate by jumping on Jackson Academy Tuesday night

OCEAN SPRINGS — It was an evening of smiles at Hubbard Gymnasium on the campus of Ocean Springs High School Tuesday night.
The defending Class 7A state champion Lady Greyhounds not only unveiled their first-ever championship banner but also dispatched private school perennial state power Jackson Academy 3-1 in the first home action of the season for OSHS.

Both teams, along with 30 others, tipped off the season over the weekend at the fourth annual Mississippi Volleyball Invitational in Clinton at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College. Both OSHS and JA are both 5-1 on the young season.
“It felt good to be back in our home gym and it felt even better to pull out a big win over a great team like JA,” OSHS head coach Christinia Daigle said. “We still have some of the early growing pains with miscommunication and unforced errors, but I saw great moments all throughout the match that showed our potential. I saw moments of mental toughness, the ability to execute under pressure and even a little grit. Really proud of how they have started out this season. A long way to go, but I like where we are at in August!”

Sophomore Taylor Douglas registered 15 assists and 13 kills to pace the Lady Greyhounds Tuesday night, while multi-sport stalwart Layla Daley had 11 kills and five assists.
Junior libero Alden St. Amant recorded 24 digs and five assists, while Baylor Edmiston had 21 assists.
The Lady Greyhounds head to Ellisville to face Brandon at Jones Junior College Thursday night.
