The young prep volleyball season continues to hit full stride this week all across the state, and that’s certainly the case in the “Southern Six” as well.

A big Jackson County match-up took place late last week, as Vancleave swept visiting Pascagoula 3-0. The Lady Bulldogs moved to 9-4 overall so far, while the Lady Panthers sit at 2-5.

Tuesday night, Vancleave heads up to Lucedale to take on home-standing George County. Meanwhile, Pascagoula faces neighboring foe Resurrection Tuesday night.

In other action Tuesday night, Moss Point travels to Gautier and Picayune heads down to Bay High as well.

Things got tipped off locally Monday night as West Harrison moved into the Kiln and slipped past home-standing Hancock 3-2 (27-29, 26-24, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13) in exciting fashion.

In the largest classification of play, Ocean Springs enters its second week of region play this week.

And the Lady Greyhounds carry a huge league winning streak into a new set of games after getting off to yer another fast start last week.

Ocean Springs opened Region 4-7A play with a pair of sweeps, one at home and one on the road, over both Harrison Central and West Harrison, respectfully.

The 2-0 start in league play moves defending Class 7A state champion OSHS to an impressive 8-1 overall so far on the young campaign.

The pair of wins also extended the region win streak for the Lady Greyhounds to 78 straight matches, dating back to the end of the 2015 season. Included in that amazing span is also 10 consecutive region championships.

The latest win came on Thursday in Gulfport, with a 3-0 sweep of West Harrison. Ocean Springs opened the week with a home sweep of Harrison Central at 25-16, 25-10, 25-13.

The quest for 80 straight region wins continues this week, with another pair of matches, one at home and one away, for OSHS.

Gulfport comes calling Tuesday night to Hubbard Gym on the OSHS campus, while on Thursday the Lady Greyhounds head to D’Iberville.
