KILN — Last week to open the season, both Hancock and Harrison Central lost close games.
Friday night, in the same type of contest, the home-standing Hawks slipped past the Red Rebels to grab their first win of the new campaign.
Hancock blocked a field goal on the final play of the game to escape with a 17-14 decision here at Brett Favre Field. Hancock is now 1-1, and HCHS is 0-2.

Hancock overcame a 14-7 halftime deficit to pull out the exciting win. Sebastain Collier’s scoring run in the third quarter drew the Hawks within one, and place-kicker Max Powell booted the all-important extra point.
Powell would come up with the biggest play of the game later, as he converted a 26-yard field goal 3:26 to play to provide the game-winning points.
The kick was set up by a 26-yard run by Majia Talley.
That would be all the scoring in the second half, as the Hawks shut down Harrison Central’s offense.

The Red Rebels took that first half lead on a scoring run by quarterback K’Adrian Brown and a recovery of a blocked punt in the end zone by Keon Moore.
Hancock quarterback Justin Wedgeworth put his Hawks on the board with a touchdown toss to Bryson Thompson.
Tally ran for a game-high 155 yards, while Wedgeworth accounted for about 200 yards of total offense and the one scoring pass.
Brown paced HCHS with 128 yards on the ground.
