We’ll take a look at some “By the Numbers” this week before we get to the weekly poll:

For the 70th time, neighborhood rivals Long Beach and Bay High will face off on the football field this week.

These two longtime meet Friday night at McCulloch Stadium in the Bay. Long Beach won just one game last year, and you guessed it that lone victory was a 49-0 thumping of Bay High at hom.

two years ago, the Beacracts managed just two wins, one of which was an exciting 36-35 road win over the Tigers also at McCulloch Stadium. The win last year was for the first for second year LBHS head coach Cody Finley at the helm of the Bearcats. But, after a 17-7 win over visiting Forrest County AHS last week, Finley has his team looking at a 2-1 start to the season for just the second time in eight seasons this week.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are still looking to give French his win first at BHS. After falling 42-7 last week to another rival in St. Stanislaus, Bay High comes into this one carrying a 15-game losing streak and the Tigers have also dropped 19-out-of-their last 20 games as well

The Bearcats lead this all-time series 40-27-2. But, the two teams have split the last 10 games at 5-5.

In addition, several other “Southern Six” squads are looking to get back on track. St. Patrick fell in its season-opener to Sacred Heart last week 30-19 and the Fighting Irish have lost 21 out of their last 24 games.

And, St. Stanislaus has won just three out of its last 18 games while Moss Point has won just three out of its last 24 games as well.

The weekly poll is the only one in the state that is voted on by a panel of veteran sportswriters, a few selected area coaches and other media members.

This is the Sept 8th rankings:
